Introducing ........ Sampford Peverell Caring Friends Group
The group consists of willing volunteers from within the community and the aim of the group is to provide a “good neighbour” service to the whole community. Volunteers will visit people who are recently bereaved or unwell, isolated or vulnerable especially if the person has no family nearby. They also offer a sitting service to allow carers some free time. In addition they provide transport to medical and other essential appointments where a person does not qualify for any statutory help or has no family or other help nearby.
Volunteers also provide help for people who need temporary assistance e.g. someone with a broken limb. They will put drops in eyes following a cataract operation – quite difficult if you live alone.
All the Caring Friends have been cleared by C.R.B. checks (Criminal Records Bureau - a national database).
Anyone using the transport service will need to pay the driver. The minimum charge will be £1.50 to cover the first 3 miles of any journey plus 40p per mile thereafter. Everything else we do is willingly given. You do not need to be a patient of the Sampford Peverell practice to use these services – they are open to all.
If you need transport or would like a visit please contact our co-ordinator Mrs Margaret Jefferies on 01884 820800 between 9.30am and 7.00pm at least a day before you wish to travel or would like a visit.
