Out of Hours Care
We do not provide our own out of hours cover but use Devon Doctors On Call which is a service generally staffed by qualified GP’s. We are confident that Devon Doctors provides a good service to our patients during the out of hours periods which are 6.00pm to 8.00am weekdays, at weekends and on Bank Holidays.
Please do not use the out of hours service for minor illnesses or advice as this can be obtained from NHS Direct on

When you contact the Devon Doctors out of hours service the Call Operator will ask:
Patient - Name; date of birth; home address; current location (if different); contact telephone number and GP details
Caller – Name and contact telephone number (if the caller is not with the patient)
Symptoms – outline of the condition plus brief details of any long term/chronic condition e.g. diabetes; heart problems etc
The Call Operator will prioritise the call based on the symptoms reported and guidelines drawn up by GP’s
The call is then forwarded to a doctor or nurse practitioner at an out of hours base
A doctor or nurse practitioner will phone you back to discuss the situation and will either offer advice or a consultation at a Treatment Centre or a home visit
